AUSTRALIA’s national resource industry employer group AREEA, has welcomed the final environmental approval of Western Australia’s first uranium mine.
AREEA (Australian Mines and Metals Association) acknowledges the collaborative work between the Western Australian Government and the federal environment and resources ministers in bringing this project to fruition.
“This is a positive example of what can be achieved when governments genuinely engage with the resource industry and its contribution to our economy and labour markets,” says AREEA executive director, industry Scott Barklamb.
“The approval of what will be Western Australia’s first uranium mine is a sensible decision and demonstrates the government’s confidence in resource employers to deliver environmentally responsible projects.
“As the world’s third biggest exporter of uranium, Australia has proven that this resource can be mined in a safe and sustainable process, creating great value for our economy.
“This Toro Energy mine will reportedly deliver 350 construction phase jobs and 170 operational jobs for the long term.
“There is another $2 billion worth of uncommitted investment in Australia’s uranium sector with at least 3000 potential jobs directly related to these new projects.
“This approval is a positive step towards securing this investment, continuing the strength of Australia’s resource industry and creating more jobs in Australia.”
