Australian Resources and Energy Group AREEA mourns the passing of former CEO Rex Whiffin on 23 June.
Mr Whiffin spent 23 years working for AREEA, the last 11 as CEO from 1982-93.
AREEA current CEO Steve Knott paid tribute to Mr Whiffin and remembered him as a leading figure in the resources and energy industry.
“Rex was hugely respected across the mining, smelting and hydrocarbons industries,” Mr Knott said.
“He led AREEA passionately during a formative period for both industrial relations and resource sector development in Australia.”
Mr Knott, Mr Whiffin and two other former longstanding AREEA CEOs – David Young and Norm Amos – were known to catch up and exchange memories of the organisation’s influence and growth over the years (see related Resource People article here).
