AREEA Skills Connect is doing their part to increase women’s participation in the resource sector with the next Connecting Women event to take place in Brisbane this December.

Following the success of its Caboolture and Beenleigh seminars, AREEA Skills Connect is expanding the program to reach Brisbane’s hub of talented women jobseekers and lend a helping hand to those hoping to begin a rewarding career in mining, oil and gas.

The Brisbane jobseeker forum will feature a score of resource industry experts to share insightful information about on-site working conditions, entry level roles and the broad range of major projects under development in Australia’s remote regions.

Participants will also be given the opportunity to gain the necessary skills of resource industry employment through training under the state government’s Certificate III Guarantee program, with the assistance of the Sarina Russo Institute and AREEA Skills Connect.

“Improving women’s participation in the resource industry workforce has become an industry objective and based on feedback from our first Connecting Women events, women are keen to become a part of the industry’s exciting culture,” AREEA Skills Connect project manager Kim Hetherington said.

“AREEA Skills Connect offers the foothold women need to overcome barriers to resource employment with training opportunities in construction, hospitality and maintenance, and partnerships across the industry mean they will have very real job opportunities once that training is completed.”

Funded in partnership with the Australian Government, the AREEA Skills Connect Connecting Women Brisbane jobseeker forum will take place on Tuesday, 10 December 2013, at the Mercure Hotel, Brisbane CBD.
