STEM inspires students in Central Queensland

Through AREEA’s Bright Future STEM program, students across the country continue to be inspired about the resources and energy industry’s  diverse range of career pathways and future jobs.

Last week the program ventured to Central Queensland to promote the future jobs and pathways within the resources sector.

Held at Moura State School across two sessions, more than 120 students learned about the industry and its diverse range of career opportunities.

Surrounding schools of Theodore, Prospect Creek and Banana joined their Moura counterparts to discover more about our industry.

A huge thanks to AREEA member Anglo American for providing company role models from its team, including a Chemical Engineer and Geologist.

Anglo American showcased its remote control mine site activity to students in addition to AREEA’s core STEM activities – Meet Edison, Turing Tumbles, Snap Circuits and Virtual Reality headsets, which give a 360 degree view of an underground tunnel then above ground mine sites.

Launched in 2019 to overwhelming industry response, AREEA’s national, school-based Bright Future STEM program is building on last year’s success to reach more students in more parts of Australia.

This AREEA initiative specifically engages 9 to 12-year-old children, encouraging an interest in STEM careers and giving an insight into future STEM employment in the sector.

The Bright Future STEM program will be in Moranbah next week for two session on August 26 and 27.

If you’re company is interested in participating on the program, AREEA would also love to hear from members if they would like sessions conducted in their areas.

AREEA thanks its members who have participated with Bright Future STEM to date, and encourages other members to learn how they can get involved.
