AREEA will soon make a submission to the Western Australian Government’s Education and Health Standing Committee on the state’s inquiry into mental health among fly-in, fly-out workers.
The inquiry was launched following the deaths of a number of employees working in the mining, oil and gas sectors on FIFO rosters over the past 12 months.
In particular, the inquiry will cover:
– The contributing factors that may lead to mental illness and suicide amongst FIFO workers;
– The current legislation, regulations, policies and practices for workplace mental health in Western Australia; and
– Existing initiatives by government, industry and community, and recommend improvements.
AREEA, as the workforce expert for the mining, oil and gas sectors, is now seeking feedback from AREEA members on fly-in, fly-out work practices from across its membership.
If you would like to be a part of this important inquiry and wish to have your voice heard by the inquiry, contact AREEA senior industry policy adviser Tristan Menalda on (03) 9614 4777 or e-mail [email protected].
