Statement from AREEA chief executive Steve Knott
ON behalf of the Australian Mines and Metals Association (AREEA) I congratulate Ms Kate Carnell AO on her appointment to the role of Australia’s inaugural Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman.
In addition, as a member of the ACCI Board, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing both Ms Carnell’s impressive leadership skills and her outstanding advocacy for Australian business.
As ACCI CEO Ms Carnell has been unwavering in her dedication to building an environment where businesses of all sizes can succeed to grow our economy and create employment opportunities.
Ms Carnell’s diverse prior experience as a small business owner, ACT Chief Minister, CEO of beyondblue, and the head of the Australian Food and Grocery Council and the Australian General Practice Network all serve toward making her a highly commendable appointee to the new Ombudsman role.
Ms Carnell’s appointment to this important role reflects in part the impact she has had on shaping business policy and supporting the key role of small businesses across Australia.
AREEA and its members also acknowledge the dedication Ms Carnell has shown in raising awareness of mental health issues in Australia.
Ms Carnell has spoken passionately on the topic at numerous AREEA conferences in her roles as both CEO of beyondblue and CEO of ACCI. This has played a crucial role in the growing engagement of Australian businesses of all sizes with the mental health and well-being of working Australians.
In addition to thanking Ms Carnell for her leadership as CEO of ACCI, I take this opportunity to wish her all the very best in her upcoming role.
