Peter Cooke

Peter Cooke is a Principal Workplace Relations Consultant based in the Perth office providing consultancy services to AREEA’s Western Australian based members.

Peter has extensive experience as both a HR Manager and an IR/ER Manager in the resources sector in Western Australia. Peter has worked in the mining industry and also provided consultancy services to resources construction projects as well as the hydrocarbons, power generation and infrastructure sectors.

Peter has dealt with and advised on a broad range of human resources and industrial/employee relations issues. He has planned and implemented significant organisational restructuring and redesign projects as well as the insourcing and outsourcing of operational activities.  He has also been part of teams undertaking due diligence on acquisitions and handling the management of divestments.

Peter has represented employers in proceedings before Federal and State industrial tribunals and quasi-judicial authorities.

Before joining AREEA, Peter was a senior Human Resources Manager with a major multinational resources company and prior to that was the Manager of Construction Services with a major WA based employer association.

In that role Peter lead teams providing IR/ER consultancy to major resource development projects including:

• Mining Area C Development (BHP Billiton)
• Dampier Port Upgrade (Rio Tinto)
• Rail Duplication Project (Rio Tinto)
• Capacity Expansion Project – Port Hedland (BHP Billiton)
• Yandicoogina Expansion (Rio Tinto)
• HIsmelt Iron Plant (Rio Tinto)
• Cockburn Power Station (ABB)

Peter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Industrial Relations and a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations.
