Industry leaders collaborate with Coalition ministers

LAST Tuesday Australian Resources and Energy Group AREEA hosted its 2019 ‘Dinner with the Coalition’ evening, providing for another successful annual event in which senior executives in Australia’s resource and energy industry could engage directly with national decision makers in the Australian Government.

MInister for Resources and Northern Australia Matthew Canavan speaking at the Dinner with the Coalition.

Co-hosted by National Party member and Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Senator Matthew Canavan, 40 senior resources and energy Executives, including an array of CEOs and Chairmen from AREEA’s membership, were joined by the following politicians.

  • Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack
  • Attorney-General and Minister for Industrial Relations, Christian Porter
  • Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews
  • Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor
  • Minister for Agriculture Bridget McKenzie
  • Assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships Steve Irons; and
  • Federal Member for Goldstein, Tim Wilson

AREEA chief executive Steve Knott praised the community of shared interest within the room and the opportunity for industry and government to engage in a candid and relaxed environment.

“The evening provides a fantastic opportunity for leaders in Australia’s resources and energy industry to network and engage directly with our national decision makers in the Australian Government,” he said.

“Last week’s event was the seventh annual occasion where a number of Australian Government ministers could hear directly from senior executives of our members about the issues impacting their businesses and our wider industry.”

Minister Canavan made particular reference to AREEA’s centenary celebrations and the role the organisation played when formed in 1918 to repatriate Australian soldiers returning from The Great War back into productive and well remunerated work.

The event is one of many opportunities AREEA draws on its wide network of contacts within Australia’s political community to offer member companies an opportunity to impart firsthand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities their businesses are facing.

Hosted in Parliament House, Canberra, attendees at this year’s Coalition Dinner heard senior Coalition Ministers speak candidly about key policies and decisions, while opening up the conversation for members to convey their industry observations.

The event is a great opportunity to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, while also recognising our industry’s contribution to Australia through enormous and sustained economic benefits.
