THE Australian Resources and Energy Group has reiterated a call for a full-scale review into the performance and processes of the Fair Work Commission; with the industry group claiming analysis shows highly qualified Coalition-appointed members have been frozen out of Full Bench matters in the past three years.
According to AREEA CEO Steve Knott, the way Full Bench matters were allocated at the FWC was important because it set the direction for how the tribunal dealt with matters that came before it.
Knott said Coalition appointees had been the presiding member in just 6% of FWC Full Bench determinations.
He said of the 713 Full Bench matters handed down between 2017-2019, 87%, or 620 were decided by a “gang of four” hand-picked by the former Rudd/Gillard government.
