Extra resources for SA Aboriginal jobseekers

UP to 100 Aboriginal jobseekers will have the opportunity to take up training targeted to jobs in South Australia’s mining and resource industries through the Connecting Aboriginal People to Resource Industries program.

State Employment and Skills Minister Grace Portolesi said this program is part of the government’s commitment to provide an additional $4 million towards training targeted specifically to Aboriginal people.

“The program gives people an opportunity to undertake accredited training and increase their
chances of getting a job in the mining and resource industries,” she said.

“The program is a partnership between businesses and training organisations, making sure the training is targeted to specific industry need.

“To be eligible for the funding businesses need to show they can support Aboriginal jobseekers to overcome barriers to employment and commit to employing participants people once they complete their training.

“Over the past three years, the State Government has invested more than $1.5 million to support 214 Aboriginal people to participate in the program.”

Applications are now open for mining and resource companies, in partnership with registered training organisations to apply for funding of up to $500,000.
