Editorial: AREEA National Conference program most compelling yet

In just 34 days, Australia’s resource industry professionals will meet in Melbourne for the annual three-day AREEA National Conference. In this editorial AREEA executive director, industry Scott Barklamb highlights the speakers and sessions you won’t want to miss.

THE AREEA National Conference is Australia’s leading annual event for resource industry employers and in 2013 is set against a backdrop of record resources investment, a pivotal federal election and some ongoing uncertainty in the global operating environment for the resources sector.

Productivity, human resources, employee relations, policy and strategies are just some of the big issues to be tackled at this preeminent annual gathering of workplace-focused professionals.

The 2013 AREEA National Conference brings you Australia’s most respected thought leaders from industry, government and academia – all offering insight on the evolving challenges and success stories within the resource industry.

Operators and employers across AREEA’s diverse membership can get up to speed on their speciality areas with Day One’s popular Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings and interactive workshops.

Day Two will open with an address from Premier of Victoria Dr. Denis Napthine before a full program of hard-hitting plenary sessions.

Three of Australia’s leading analytical minds in Tim Harcourt, Saul Eslake and Bernard Salt will examine our nation’s economic, competitive and
labour challenges through their unique disciplines.

HR specialists will particularly benefit from Leighton Holdings’ Dharma Chandran’s reflections on employee engagement. Later, a specialist panel session featuring industry, union and industrial tribunal identities will cover the hard-hitting workplace relations issues relevant to day-to-day business in the resource industry.
