Statement by AREEA Chief Executive, Steve Knott
AUSTRALIAN Resources and Energy Group AREEA welcomes the appointment of Sandra Parker PSM as Australia’s next Fair Work Ombudsman.
Ms Parker is highly regarded and well respected for her distinguished public service career, including the past eight years as Deputy Secretary at the Department of Jobs and Small Business.
She is well known to AREEA, our members and the workplace relations community. We wish her well in this challenging and important role.
AREEA also acknowledges outgoing Fair Work Ombudsman Natalie James for her five years’ service in what is a very serious management position, with a budget of $188 million and more than 700 staff.
The Fair Work Ombudsman performs a highly visible and very important role in prosecuting and recovering underpayment of wages.
Equally important and perhaps less visible, is the Ombudsman’s duties to use its considerable resources to hold employers, employees and union organisations to account if they engage in or incite illegal industrial action.
