AREEA hosts beyondblue Heads Up seminar in Perth

IN partnership with the mental health experts at beyondblue, national resource employer group AREEA invites you to join us in Perth to learn how you can build a mentally healthy workplace at the beyondblue Heads Up campaign seminar.

On 1 September 2014, beyondblue’s Michael O’Hanlon will join AREEA members in Perth to provide his insight about what the Heads Up campaign can deliver to the resource industry and how your organisation can take advantage of the program.

Launched among resource employers at the recent AREEA Industry Briefings, the beyondblue Heads Up program has gained momentum across the mining, oil and gas sectors as an initiative to help employers build mentally healthy workplace cultures.

More than three million Australians experience depression or anxiety, and these conditions tend to affect people mostly during their prime working years (16 to 64 years). It is critically important for workplaces to be well-equipped to effectively deal with these issues.

A recent PricewaterhouseCoopers report revealed that Australian businesses will receive an average return of $2.30 for every $1 they invest in effective mental health strategies. The report, which looked at the impact of employees’ mental health conditions on productivity, participation and compensation claims, also found such conditions cost Australian employers $10.9 billion a year.

Heads Up puts mental health high on the business agenda and encourages the Australian business community to take action to improve mental health in the workplace.

AREEA’s beyondblue Heads Up campaign seminar comes as the West Australian government begins its inquiry into FIFO mental health, following recent suicides at FIFO worksites (read related story here).
