AREEA to host resource leaders’ employment roundtable with minister for women

AUSTRALIA’s resource industry employer group AREEA is delighted to this month bring together key resource sector executives with Minister for Women and Minister for Employment Michaelia Cash for a “Women’s Leadership and Employment Roundtable”.

Taking place in AREEA’s Melbourne boardroom on November 16, the event will allow for leaders of Australia’s mining, oil and gas and allied sectors to collaborate with and provide insight to the minister on strategies, challenges and opportunities for increasing women’s employment in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

With particular focus on attracting more women to site-based, operational roles and developing female leadership in the industry, the roundtable will build on the five years of engagement AREEA has had with the government on gender diversity through its Commonwealth-funded Australian Women in Resources Alliance (AWRA) initiative.

“Facilitating direct communication between the leaders of Australia’s resource industry and Minister Cash is critical to our sector’s progress in lifting its female workforce participation,” explains AREEA chief executive Steve Knott.

“In holding the dual portfolio of Minister for Employment and Minister for Women, Senator Cash has a unique opportunity to put employment outcomes at the fore of the Office of Women’s role in improving the lives of all Australian women.

“Already this has seen Minister Cash and her team achieve great things in advancing gender equality in male dominated industries.

“Similarly, resource industry leaders are as committed as ever to realising the social and commercial benefits that come from a diverse workforce.

“I look forward to communicating the outcomes of this important roundtable event to the broader AREEA membership later this month.”

AREEA’s Women’s Leadership and Employment Roundtable with Minister Cash is exclusively limited to just 20 attendees.  Two available places remain and will be allocated to the first AREEA member executives to contact [email protected] before the end of today.
