AREEA chief executive Steve Knott has returned from a week-long trade delegation to Myanmar, led by Minister for Employment & Workplace Relations Bill Shorten and focusing on labour, trade and investment.
Minister Shorten lead the delegation of Australian business and employer and union representatives and had advised that the mission was timely in light of the recent political developments which have already begun to promote broad international interest in direct investment opportunities in the country.
The delegation was announced as an opportunity to identify practical ways in which Australia can assist Myanmar in building its technical expertise and support labour systems, as well as build vital business connections and highlight trade and investment opportunities.
Australian Financial Review reporter Jennifer Hewett was a guest on the Myanmar delegation trip and today published her account of the experience. Read the AFR article here.
A feature article and images from the trip will be published in AREEA’s Resource People magazine in early 2013. Steve Knott will provide members with any relevant information in coming weeks.
