ACCI appoints Shell executive as new CEO

THE Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry today announced the appointment of James Pearson as its new chief executive officer.

Mr Pearson, who is replacing former CEO Kate Carnell AO, is an experienced business advocate and current Shell Australia senior executive.

Australian Chamber President, Terry Wetherall, said that the Board of the Australian Chamber was delighted that Mr Pearson has accepted the position and will be a strong advocate for the Chamber’s membership.

“James comes to the Chamber with a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors. As a senior executive with Shell Australia and, previously, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia, he has represented business at the highest level and understands the needs of members,” Mr Wetherall said.

“James will provide strong and direct leadership for our members.”

AREEA chief executive and Australian Chamber board member, Steve Knott, congratulated Mr Pearson on his appointment from a large field of high quality candidates.

“James brings to his new role a strong track record as a proven, effective advocate for the Australian business community. Resource employers and other trade-exposed industries will especially welcome James’ experience in international markets, and understanding what it takes to attract job-creating investment to Australia,” Mr Knott said.

“He is eminently qualified to lead the nation’s peak business representative body at a time when our economy is transitioning, our labour markets and skills are evolving, and there are both significant challenges and great opportunities across all business sectors.”

Mr Pearson will take up his appointment within the next few weeks.
