South Australian copper-gold miner OZ Minerals took out the 2013 AWRA Award presented during the AREEA National Conference Gala Dinner and AREEA Industry Awards Ceremony on 16 May in Melbourne. The Awards judging panel recognised OZ Minerals’ initiatives to achieve 25% female participation at all levels in the organisation.

OZ Minerals ensures diversity is directly measured as part of overall company performance and provides strategic training and development opportunities to enable women to achieve their career aspirations.

Another standout in the workforce diversity space, Anglo American Metallurgical Coal won the Most Creative Recruitment Campaign Award. The organisation brought its targeted recruitment strategy to life through the celebration of its inspirational female employees as well as inclusive initiatives underway as part of the company’s broader recruitment and positioning strategy.

The campaign focused on a woman working in a non-traditional role as an underground mine electrician. The advertisements contributed to a consistent growth in female participation, with women comprising 23% of all new appointments in 2012.
