AREEA prepared this submission at the invitation of Federal Minister for Immigration & Citizenship, Chris Bowen, and the Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC) to highlight the issues its members in the resource industry were having with the current 457 visa program.

While the Minister and the Federal Government have made many positive improvements to Australia’s migration program in recent years, AREEA’s submission said the needs of the resource industry would be further assisted by streamlining the 457 visa process to allow for faster processing of visa applications, particularly where the businesses seeking to access skilled labour from overseas already had an established record of compliance, as many did in the resource industry.
