“How to” Training on Implementing the Fair Work Act in
Your Workplace

AMMA is conducting a second series of workshops on major
areas of change introduced by the Fair Work Act and transitional arrangements.
The training is interactive and provides ‘hands on’ practical opportunities to
apply the proposed legislation. Our first series was attended by over 300
participants throughout Australia. The training is suitable for those people in
your organisation who need to understand and apply the new workplace laws,
including managers, superintendents, supervisors and human resources staff.

1. Moving from the Old to the New: Transitioning from the
Current Workplace Relations system
2. Closing the Deal: Bargaining, Protected Action and
Agreement Making Beyond July 2009
3. Flexing Union Muscles: Union Rights and Powers
4. Fundamentals of the Australian Employment Relationship
5. Managing Employee Relations
This is a three-hour workshop addressing:
What
will happen to employees employed on AWAs, ITEAs and old collective agreements?
How
does the no detriment test apply to these instruments and what happens if we
fail the test?
Can
people on these instruments vote for a new agreement? Take protected industrial
action?
How
do we terminate/replace old agreements?
What
if we started negotiating a new agreement but it won’t be completed by 1 July?
What rules will then apply?
The workshop will include practical guidance for conducting a
compliance audit for implementing the National Employment Standards in your
workplace. It will also address how to move from individual arrangements to a
collective process while still achieving business outcomes.
This workshop commences nationally the week of 15 June and
runs from 9am until noon.

A one-day workshop for those who have commenced bargaining or
will do so after July 2009. The workshop will address:
Transitioning from an individual to collective environment
Practical tips for dealing with third parties during bargaining
(union(s), Fair Work Australia)
Getting the most from good faith bargaining
Anticipating and addressing “permitted matters” and protected
industrial action
Dealing with requests for privileged or confidential information
Strategies for interacting with “default bargaining agents’
Impact of NES and Modern Awards

A practical examination of union rights and powers this
workshop will explain the implications and how to manage the issues of:
Award application
Which unions can enter your business
Under what circumstances unions can enter your premises, who they
can talk to and what they can take copies of
When can an employer refuse entry?

An update on union developments nationally

This one-day workshop provides an introduction and overview
of the Australian employment relations framework. It examines:
Utilising agreement flexibility terms to achieve desired
flexibilities
how the employment contract may be created, varied and terminated
the workplace relations framework and the impact of the new
legislation on the employment relationship
Modern awards, agreement options, agreement content and good
faith bargaining
Union rights and powers in the workplace; and
Fair Work Australia’s powers
This workshop commences nationally in August.

This two-day workshop will assist participants develop an
understanding of the framework for dealing with industrial relations, the
industrial relations system as a whole, union issues, options for agreement
making and how to deal with industrial action.
Identify, access and appropriately communicate to others the
requirements of legislation, industrial instruments and policies and procedures
that impact upon industrial relations within your organisational environment.
Promote and represent the industrial relations interests of the
organisations as necessary and appropriate.
Understand the options for industrial relations regulation within
the workplace, implement appropriate options and monitor that implementation.
Identify potential industrial relations conflicts that may arise
in the workplace, including those involving third parties and develop
strategies to address those conflicts and actions.
This two-day workshop commences nationally in September.
