SAFEWORK SA has issued a reminder to health and safety representatives (HSRs) to complete a one-day training course by December 2013 in order to meet new work health and safety laws enacted on 1 January 2013.

The bridging course provides training on the new legislation to ensure representatives are aware of their roles and functions as HSRs.

From 1 January 2014, HSRs who have not completed the course will have powers to stop unsafe work practices revoked. A five-day supplementary course will be required to reinstate them.

For HSRs elected prior to 2013, the course is mandatory.
