STATEMENT ON THE ACTU’S “CHANGE THE RULES” CAMPAIGN

In response to media coverage on the ACTU’s “Change the Rules” campaign, Chief Executive Steve Knott has reiterated AREEA’s strong position on the workplace relations debate.

“In recent weeks, despite many opportunities, I have been reluctant to comment prominently in the media on the ACTU’s “Change the Rules” workplace relations campaign,” Mr Knott says.

“This is because in my view, notwithstanding the willingness of other business groups to do so, it plays into the peak trade union body’s strategy of stirring up controversy and seeking to wedge business into a position of defending the ALP’s disastrous Fair Work laws.

“AREEA’s strong position is that the debate on workplace relations in Australia must be more future-focused, not stuck in the rear view mirror of the ACTU’s Delorean Time Machine, attempting to take our nation back to a 1970’s union dystopia.

“Nonetheless, in the following statement I’ve put forth my views on four major areas of the ACTU’s nostalgic campaign that I’ve been repeatedly asked about. In short, it all spells a ‘no-go zone’ for Australia’s resources and energy employers, and a potential catastrophe for our wider economy.”
