AS foreshadowed in AREEA’s News Update in early December 2015, the Australian Government has issued new migration arrangements for the offshore resources sector that excludes foreign nationals working on vessels involved in offshore resources activities from the requirement to hold an Australian working visa.
For foreign nationals (i.e. skilled non-citizens) undertaking activities on offshore “resources installations” (e.g. installations attached to the Australian seabed), this will not change their current migration / visa requirements.
AREEA welcomes the government’s new arrangements as providing certainty and stability for the offshore resources sector in an area of regulation marred by politicking and unnecessary change in recent years.
To ensure AREEA members are fully briefed on this complex area, AREEA’s migration policy specialists have prepared a five-page briefing document clearly setting out the impacts of these changes.
