As advised via a circular to all AREEA members, the Commonwealth Parliament last week passed legislation to restore the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC).

The legislation then received Royal Assent on 1 December 2016 and according to the Act’s commencement provisions, took effect from 2 December 2016, albeit with a two-year transitional period for existing enterprise agreements to become code-compliant.

Many AREEA members are seeking to understand the changes and have practical questions on what the new agency will mean for them, their operations and dealings with construction unions.

AREEA has organised a one hour webinar from 3.00 – 4.00pm Melbourne time (commencing 2.30pm Adelaide, 2.00pm Brisbane, and 12.00pm Perth time) on Thursday 8 December 2016 to outline the changes made by the new legislation, look at how the new ABCC will operate differently to Fair Work Building & Construction, and address member questions of a practical nature.
