AMMA member Crocodile Gold has taken out the top prize in this year’s Victorian Mine Rescue Competition with the Fosterville Gold Mine Emergency Response Team guiding them to victory.

The annual competition, now in its 21st year, tests the team’s ability to respond to emergency situations on mine sites with particular focus on fire fighting, search and rescue, first aid, rope rescue, breathing apparatus and team skills.

Megan Davison, chief executive of competition hosts the Minerals Council of Australia – Victoria Division, said each event replicated real-life scenarios.

“The Victorian Mine Rescue Competition provides practical training experience to members of mining operations, encouraging them to apply teamwork to build skills that are vital to these specialised emergency rescue teams”, Ms Davison said.

“The competition fosters strong team spirit, competitiveness and goodwill among the rescue teams and their supporters, with over 150 people attending the presentation dinner on Sunday night. I congratulate all team members for commitment to emergency response.”

Newcrest Mining, also an AMMA member, competed in the event, along with Lion Gold, Energy Australia and AGL Loy Yang.
