About AWRA

The Australian Women in Resources Alliance (AWRA) is a proactive industry initiative dedicated to facilitating the increased attraction and retention of women in resources employment.

The AWRA project is driven by resource industry employer group AREEA, with the leadership committee comprising representatives from various industry bodies and employers across Australia.

AWRA is using funding provided by the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) through its Critical Skills Investment Fund to implement strategies and services that support recommendation 5.5 of the National Resource Sector Workforce Strategy.

This recommendation highlights the important role female workers will play in fulfilling current and forecasted skills shortages across the Australian mining, hydrocarbons, energy, construction and related and servicing sectors. Increasing gender diversity is an industry imperative.

The Way Forward paper details the economic motives of AWRA’s formation and the key barriers for female participation in resources jobs. It outlines how AWRA can facilitate the appropriate cultural change, promote best practice workplace policies and strengthen and unite the various women’s networks and major industry stakeholders across Australia.
