Karara Mining Ltd was established in 2007 through a joint venture between Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corporation (52.16%) and Gindalbie Metals Limited (47.84%) for the devleopment of the world-class Karara Project .
The project, located 200km east of Geraldton, is the first major magnetite operation in the Mid West and will underpin a substantial, long-life iron ore business with robust economic benefits. The operation includes construction and operation of a large open pit mine, a processing plant to produce magnetite concentrate, and all associated infrastructure.
Karara will deliver both high grade magnetite concentrate and Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) hematite. The first shipment of DSO from Karara occurred in March 2011. The major magnetite project, which is targeting stage one production of 8.8 wet tonnes per annum of high grade concentrate, made its first shipment in January 2013.
Karara is committed to working with local communities to support sustainable development in the Mid West region.
