Deputy Prime Minister Gillard concedes AMMA's argument against 'drop dead' dates for old agreements
14-Nov-2008
In an address to the ALLA Conference in Melbourne today, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard has acknowledged AMMA's role in convincing her to abandon the idea of including a sunset date for old agreements in the new workplace relations legislation to be introduced into Parliament in December.

Speaking at the Australian Labour Law Association's Fourth Biennial Conference in Melbourne today, the Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard credited the work undertaken by the 50 people, inlcuding AMMA's Director Workplace Policy Christopher Platt, who met as the Committee on Industrial Legislation (COIL) for two weeks in Canberra in October to analyse and review the Government's draft workplace relations legislation. The Deputy Prime Minister used her address to announce some of the decisions she has made regarding the final form of the legislation as a consequence of the feedback she received from COIL.

Ms Gillard gave particular recognition to AMMA's arguments as having convinced her to abandon the notion of including a sunset date for old agreements.
