AMMA prides itself on finding opportunities that can be of benefit to our members and would like to bring to your attention the DIMIA "Australia Needs Skills" expos. The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) is running the Australia Needs Skills expos to connect overseas skilled workers with Australian employers and state and territory governments. The Australia Needs Skills expos are a tailored, cost effective and practical method of recruiting skilled staff when employers are unable to find them in the local labour market.
DIMA is hosting a series of expos in Asia in May. Employers in the resources sector have shown keen interest in the Philippines as a source of skilled labour and a DIMA expo will be held in Manila on 17-18 May. Other Asian expo locations include Shanghai 9-10 May and Hong Kong 13-14 May.
Employers are able to secure a booth at an expo at a cost of $1100 per day (including GST). Representatives from Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) will attend all expos and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will be present at the Manila expo. Australian employers may wish to access the POEA site http://www.poea.gov.ph/html/hiringFilipinos.html which explains the process for foreign employers hiring Filipino workers.
Employers interested in participating in the expos are invited to lodge an expression of interest online at http://www.immi.gov.au/feedback/expos/. You will be asked to provide details of the skills you are seeking so that persons attending the expos can be matched to your needs.
