AMMA submission on WorkChoices award review process

AMMA lodged its submission on the award review process to the Taskforce on 7 February 2006, setting out our key concerns. These include the potential to cause increased wage rates and to open a back door for unions to extend their coverage. AMMA also argued that enterprise awards should be retained. A move towards industry-based awards in the simplification process should penalise companies such as Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton that embraced enterprise awards back in the 1980s before enterprise agreements were introduced. AMMA has asked the Government to avoid establishing a 'one size fits all' award for the mining industry and to exclude senior employees from the award system.
