AMMA Board meets with Julia Gillard
03-May-2007
AMMA's Board met with Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Julia Gillard, in Melbourne on 2 May 2007. At the meeting the Board conveyed its concerns and reservations regarding a number of the elements contained in the recently released ALP IR policy.

AMMA’s Board used the opportunity to convey concerns that the industry have with various aspects of the ALP policy, including the absence of any form of statutory individual agreement and the lack of detail regarding the compliance and enforcement mechanisms for illegal strike action.

AMMA is committed to its policy of a full range of employment agreement options being available to both employers and employees, and for that range to include collective and individual agreements.

AMMA Chief Executive, Steve Knott, commented on the outcome of the meeting and indicated that the ongoing consultation process provides the ALP with an improved understanding of the resources sector’s needs and its expectations of a flexible industrial relations framework. AMMA will continue discussions with the ALP and other political parties regarding the impact of their industrial relations policies on the sector. Mr Knott’s comments on ABC radio can be heard by clicking on the link below.
