Steve Knott - Chief Executive

 

Steve Knott has been AMMA’s Chief Executive since 1997. Steve is a passionate advocate of the need for flexible labour relations arrangements at the enterprise level that facilitate direct employer-employee relationships.

 

Steve actively encourages resources sector employers in Australia to embrace flexible labour relations legislative changes and leads AMMA’s lobbying efforts on their behalf to relevant government, opposition and minor party politicians at state and federal government level.

 

Before joining AMMA, Steve held senior ER/HR positions with the Hydro Electric Commission Tasmania including the positions of Employee Relations Manager and Human Resources Manager.

 

Steve is a member of the National Workplace Relations Consultative Council, the International Labour Advisory Committee, is AMMA’s representative on the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s General Council and holds various other representative roles on behalf of AMMA.

Christopher Platt - Chief Operating Officer

 

Christopher is AMMA’s Chief Operating Officer and until very recently, AMMA’s Workplace Policy Director. He provides leadership to the resources sector and AMMA staff in matters related to workplace relations policy. This includes research, policy development (in conjunction with the Board Reference Group), advice, education, lobbying and stakeholder management.  

 

Christopher is a member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council, Employment and Labour Relations Committee, a Director of the National Business Action Fund and has represented Australian employers at a range of International Labour Organisation meetings. He is also the Executive Officer of the Agribusiness Employers Federation.

 

Prior to joining AMMA in 1992, Christopher worked with the South Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (now Business SA) from 1989 to 1992 and a Police Officer (Prosecutor) from 1978 to 1987.

 

Christopher holds a Bachelor of Arts (politics and labour studies) and a Bachelor of Laws. Christopher won the Industrial Relations Prize in 2000 and is currently completing a Master in Law (Legal Practice) at ANU.

 

Christopher’s professional memberships include the Law Society of South Australia and the Australian Labour Law Association.

Minna Knight - Director, Media, Communication and Member Services

 

Minna Knight is responsible for AMMA’s strategic public affairs and media management and also oversees service delivery and communication to members through AMMA’s Member Services Division. Minna is also responsible for providing strategic direction in the delivery of AMMA campaigns, which includes providing guidance in the development of resources sector policy positions and lobbying activities. Minna also represents AMMA in lobbying activities at both state and federal levels.

 

As an experienced consultant and advocate, Minna can also assist member companies at a strategic level with HR and IR advice and communications for their organisations.

 

Minna has previously held roles as a Senior Adviser to Julie Bishop, Deputy Leader of the Coalition and Joe Hockey, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations during the lead-up to the 2007 election.

 

Prior to this time, Minna has worked as an industrial relations practitioner and policy advisor for a range of industries and industry groups spanning across various industry sectors including manufacturing, construction and hospitality.

 

Minna holds a Bachelor of Economics and has undertaken post-graduate studies in employment law, industrial relations and public affairs.

Tony Caccamo - Director, Workplace Operations

 

Tony Caccamo is AMMA’s Director of Workplace Operations.  In this role Tony has responsibility for leading a national team of consultants.  Prior to this appointment, Tony lead AMMA’s hydrocarbons sector consultancy team.

 

In addition to these management roles, Tony has provided consultancy and representation services to AMMA members in the mining, oil and gas, aviation and metal industries.  His industry support activities include lobbying state and federal governments on employee relations matters impacting on AMMA members.

 

Prior to joining AMMA Tony worked in a range of industrial relations roles in the WA Public Sector including representing public sector employers in the maritime, health and civil construction industries and the Government on public sector wide policy matters.

Geoff Bull - Director, Workplace Policy

 

Prior to joining AMMA, Geoff was the Principal Employee Relations Adviser with the Kellogg Joint Venture on the Gorgon Project and has had extensive legal and HR/IR experience including:

§ providing advice on legal issues affecting employers including corporate governance, contractual disputes, risk management and general drafting restraint clauses, insurance and indemnity clauses;

§ representing employers in courts and tribunals including the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Tribunal, the Coal Industry Tribunal, the Magistrate’s Court, the WA Supreme Court, the WA Administrative Tribunal and the Federal Court of Australia;

§ managing and resolving industrial disputes and negotiating and finalising employer/union agreements in the iron ore, gold and coal mining industries; and

§ providing consultancy services in resolving employee conflict, workplace restructuring and drug and alcohol policies.

 

Geoff has held roles as a Managing Director of CCI Legal and Migration Services. He has also worked in employee relations with Goldsworthy Mining, BHP Iron Ore and was the on site IR representative for the HI-Smelt Research and Development Facility.

 

Geoff’s Qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts with a Double major in Industrial Relations and Politics and Bachelor of Laws. He is a practicing Solicitor/Barrister of the Supreme Court of West Australia and the High Court of Australia.

 

Geoff is based in the AMMA’s Sydney office.
